To discover any relatives your sequence may have in the database, use the left-hand mouse button to retrieve part of the sequence (say ~60 residues) and paste into the Query sequence box of the BLAST  at NCBI facility. Edit out  any non-amino acid characters from the pasted sequence and Perform Search - this should take around 30 seconds to run, but the server may be busy with other jobs, so please be patient. When the search is complete, make a note of high-scoring matches - you may wish to save the result using Save as in Netscape's File option (top left-hand corner of the border).

Uwagi.

1. blastx (przeszukiwanie bazy sekwencji białkowych sekwencją nukleotydową) daje bardziej wiarygodne wyniki niż blastn.

2. Proszę nie używać BLAST do szukania homologów polipeptydów (<10aa) i oligonucleotydów. Do szukania krótkimi sekwencjami lepiej nadaje się FASTA.

4. Aby zachować wyniki BLAST należy w Netscape otworzyć stronę z wynikiem w  Composer (EDIT PAGE) i po (repost form data) zachować (save as) w oddzielnym klatalogu na dysku lokalnym.
